Time & Tide Wait for No Town

The Sausalito Sustainable Waterfront Association is proud to endorse Measure X.

The SSWA represents the vast majority of businesses and operators along Sausalito's working waterfront. We are the foundation of our maritime community.

Our members range from multigenerational, family-owned businesses to new startups. We believe this initiative is essential to preserving Sausalito's unique waterfront heritage while allowing it to evolve in a thoughtful, sustainable, and economically viable manner.

The adoption of Measure X would address the effects of 40-year-old obsolete rules that make it impossible to sustain a healthy maritime industry in Sausalito, for the long term.

Measure X would restore a balanced discretionary public review process, so our community can make the thoughtful adjustments the working waterfront needs, and back the skilled trades that depend on it: outboard engine mechanics, fishermen, sailmakers, shipwrights, artists, electricians, divers, and everyone else who powers Sausalito's maritime ecosystem.

Measure X is especially important as our community works to preserve and strengthen Sausalito's historic boatyards and marine service facilities. Many of these facilities continue to rely on WW2 era structures that make modernization and environmental improvements difficult or impossible, under the current regulatory framework.

Measure X would provide opportunities to implement innovative, environmentally responsible solutions that both preserve these historic maritime resources and improve their compatibility with today's environmental standards.

By supporting thoughtful modernization, Measure X will help ensure that future generations can continue to steward a vibrant working waterfront that provides skilled jobs, supports small businesses, protects the environment, and preserves the maritime character that has defined Sausalito for generations.

For these reasons, the Sausalito Sustainable Waterfront Association enthusiastically endorses Measure X and encourages the community to support this important effort. This is Sausalito’s opportunity to show, not just say, that it supports its maritime community.

Sincerely,

The Sausalito Sustainable Waterfront Association
