A note from KC Pedersen, Third Generation Clipper Yacht Harbor
To the Sausalito community and everyone who enjoys our waterfront,
My name is KC Pedersen, my grandfather started Clipper Yacht Harbor in 1947. My father took over the operation in 1998 and continued to reinvest in and improve the marina. Today I have the privilege and responsibility of carrying on what they both built. As a father to a daughter and son, my hope is to pass this family business on to a fourth generation, rooted here in Sausalito.
The suggestion that we intend to sell out to large corporations or developers is deeply upsetting. This is my family’s livelihood and history – it is a legacy I want to preserve.
Boating is our business. Our future depends on a thriving maritime community, and we have every reason to protect it. We want Sausalito to remain a place where people can work on the water, enjoy boating and experience our beautiful waterfront.
That is why I support Measure X. I believe we can protect our maritime heritage and create more opportunities to enjoy the waterfront while giving these property owners and businesses the economic flexibility they need to support their workers, cover major repairs, maintain infrastructure, and make lasting improvements. A working waterfront needs the financial ability to sustain itself.
I know life for all of us is busy, and it can be hard to keep up with issues outside our daily routines. But these rules have affected my family for 40 years. The burdensome restrictions in the Marinship Specific Plan and Ordinance 1022 threaten the very waterfront we all want to protect. There are many false claims about Measure X. The truth is, it simply gives people in the Marinship the opportunity to go through the permitting process. It does not automatically approve projects or guarantee an outcome. People agree these rules are outdated, but putting off changes has not worked in the past. We can’t keep kicking the can down the road and promise to fix them later. Our time is now.
This waterfront means so much to all of us. I want our children to inherit a thriving working waterfront and have the opportunity to care for it as my father and grandfather did.
I hope you will join me in voting yes on Measure X. Please feel free to contact me personally if you would like to talk further!
Sincerely,
KC Pedersen
